2011 Activities Profile

Services for Residents in Kyoto

1) We hold international understanding lecture to explore a range of subjects, including culture, economics, society and politics in various countries.

2) Support for volunteers
・ We seek and register volunteers in 5 fields. Volunteers receive activity information and can use the space at KPIC.
・ Training sessions are available for volunteers in the fields of supporting international residents in case of disaster, teaching the Japanese language, etc.

3) Trainings for residents in supporting multiculturalism

4) We organize exchange with France

5) Consultation on employing international students is avalable. Consultations are on employment for business in Kyoto Prefecture. Reservation is required. Consultation is on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10:30 to 16:30 (60 min/session, free of charge)

6) We publish a newsletter four times a year (in English and Japanese) and an email newsletter monthly. We also provide various kinds of information through our website.

Services for International Residents in Kyoto

1) The KPIC counseling desk (free and confidential) is available from 1pm to 5pm to help with problems you might encounter in everyday life.
Monday & Tuesday/English, Wednesday/Spanish, Thursday/Portuguese & Tagalog, Friday/Chinese, Saturday/Korean (Except on days when KPIC is closed)

2) Advice regarding visas is available from a judicial scrivener on the fourth Sunday of every month. (30 min/person, free of charge, reservation required)

3) Consultation is available for international students. Reservation is required.
Consultation is on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10:30 to 16:30 (60 min/session, free of charge)

4) Japanese lessons
・ Group lessons, three-month introductory and beginner courses, are available twice a year, May-July and October- December.
・There are also one-to-one lessons with volunteer teachers

5) Preparation for disasters
・We offer a service sending disaster preparedness information and other useful living information to your mobile phone.
・We hold seminars to prepare for disasters. It includes practicing the establishment of a multi-lingual support center .
・We distribute a disaster preparedness guidebook in several languages.

6) We provide education support for children and parents/guardians whose first language is not Japanese.

7) Homestays & Field T rips
There are programs such as homestays and field trips in which you can deepen your understanding of Kyoto and enjoy exchange with local residents.

8) Sports exchange festival with international students

9) Introductions to the culture of Japan and Kyoto
・We recruits volunteers to take part in Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s biggest and most famous festivals.
・Experience a variety of Japanese cultural activities such as calligraphy, ikebana, origami etc. taught by volunteers.

Services for International Activity Organizations in Kyoto

1) At our International Cooperation Station event at Kyoto station in 2011, you can introduce the activities of your organization.

2) We can hold joint programs with your organization.

3) There are opportunities to network with other organizations.

4) Advertising
・ Photograph panels showcasing your international activities can be displayed at KPIC, which also contains space for you to leave fliers for visitors.
・ You can advertise about your organization and events on our website.

5) We assist in projects that take place in Kyoto.

Services for Public Organizations

1) We can send our Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) to your organization to hold events such as an international understanding lecture.

2) We provide our volunteers with information about activities at your organization.

3) Seminars are held at various locations in Kyoto Prefecture.
