National Pension: Everyone living in Japan between the ages of 20 and 60 must enroll in the national pension scheme. Those who are enrolled in an employees’ pension plan do not need to specially enroll because they are already automatically enrolled through their workplace.
National Health Insurance: International residents who are properly registered, have a period of stay of one year or longer, and who are not enrolled in health insurance through the workplace should enroll. (excluding people on short-term stays)
The National Pension and National Health Insurance systems are run by the national government, but procedures and inquiries can take place at your local municipality’s insurance and pension office.
